The A-6 Intruder. The proto type
intruder flew on three 16th April 1960 and entered service in February
1963 At the start of the Vietnam War the Intruder had been flown by three
LANTFLTR Squadrons and oene marine squadron but soon the aircraft
was re equipping squadron which were flying A-1H/Js. In total there were
10 squadrons and One marine squadrons working of the big carriers in the Gulf
of Tonkin.. squadrons equipped with A-6 Intruders were. VA-35
Black Panthers, VA--52 Knightriders, VA-65 Tigers, VA-75 Sunday Punchers,
VA-85 Black falcons, VA-95 Green Lizards, VA-115 Arabs, VA-145 Swordsmen,
VA-165 Boomers, VA-196 main battery, and the VMA (AW) 224 Bengals.
The Intruder aircraft operated form the USS Enterprise. USS Coral Sea, USS
Kitty Hawk, USS Independence, USS Forrestal, USS Constellation, USS
America, USS Midway, and the USS Ranger

The A-6
Intruder has had a long and effective career as the Navys primary attack
plane. A-6s were used in Vietnam and still were effective during Desert
Storm, as the avionics on these aircraft have been constantly upgraded
